What A Pain In The Neck!
In the presence of neck pain, there is evident changes in muscle function.
Deep neck muscles tend to fatigue. When this happens, you may substitute more superficial neck muscles to move your head forward, for turning or rotating – your body’s way of compensating.
For a muscle to control a body segment it must first have sufficient strength.
To train muscle performance, the muscle has to do a repeated action against some resistance.
Activating and strengthening the deep neck muscles can help improve posture in this area, as well as increase functioning and reduce pain and other symptoms over the long term.
Note: There are small muscles called the hyoid muscles (involved in swallowing). These can cause severe pain, and need expert treatment by an osteopath. Book an appointment if your neck pain persists.
